LANXESS Corporation’s third- quarter U.S. sales (adjusted for portfolio changes and currency effects)
increased around 9 percent in the third quarter of 2008 compared to the same period of last year.
North American Service Organization
In August, LANXESS announced a combined North American Service Organization headed by LANXESS Corporation President and CEO Randy Dearth. Alexander (Sandy) Marshall will assume the role of Country
Representative Canada, reporting to Randy Dearth. Both LANXESS Corporation and the Canadian organization, LANXESS Inc., will remain operational as separate legal entities.
Hurricane Ike
When Hurricane Ike made landfall in Texas on September 13, LANXESS Corporation’s Orange, TX facility sustained flooding that damaged much of the plant’s equipment and electrical infrastructure. Due to similar extensive damage in the region, the facility, along with millions of homes and businesses, was left without power, voice and data communications.
Since the storm hit, employees and contractors in Orange, together with the Crisis Team in Pittsburgh have been working around the clock to get the site up and running as quickly as possible. Approximately six weeks after the storm hit, the Orange facility was producing again, ahead of all of the other facilities on Chemical Row, the miles-long stretch of modern industrial plants located in Orange.
European Flights to Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh region is opening a direct gateway to Europe with a new nonstop flight from Pittsburgh International Airport to Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France.

I think we made the case that a nonstop flight to Europe is critical to the more than 100 global companies that maintain headquarters or base major business units in the Pittsburgh region,” said Randy Dearth, president and CEO of LANXESS Corporation. “The new flight will help to save local employers millions of dollars each year in lost time and productivity.”
