Nothing is cooler than a Pittsburgh company being recognized for its world-class work. Just recently, member company, Bally Design, was honored with an International Design Excellence Award. Check out the press release below:
Bally Design, located on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, was awarded a Bronze 2008 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for its design of a collapsible silicone colander for OXO International, Ltd., makers of OXO Good Grips® house wares products.
The IDEA awards are a celebration of the most innovative and exciting product and product concept designs of the year and one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions. Of the 1,517 entries submitted this year, only 205 designs received awards. Winners were announced in the BusinessWeek IDEA report in July, and were also published in the IDSA Yearbook of Design Excellence, released in September.
The Bally-designed colander, which has been a top seller for OXO since its release, can be immersed in boiling water, is heat resistant up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, and collapses flat for easy storage. “We tried to develop a unique mix of function and fun in the colander design, and winning an IDEA award is a wonderful acknowledgement of success in that effort,” remarked Bally president Randy Rossi. Bally has been designing products for OXO since 2001, and its designs also include a mandoline slicer that received a Bottom Line Design Award in 2005.
