VNIIGAZ Selects ANSYS Multiphysics Software to Drive Innovation in Oil and Gas Pipeline Technology

ANSYS, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that VNIIGAZ  — the Scientific-Research Institute of Natural Gases and Gas Technologies LLC — has selected software from ANSYS for its research and development programs. VNIIGAZ is one of Russia’s largest research centers and a division of Moscow-based JSC Gazprom, a gas exploration and production company with huge reserves. VNIIGAZ is using multiphysics simulation software from ANSYS to improve reliability and drive technological innovation in the pipeline equipment used to transfer oil and gas. The company also is applying Simulation Driven Product Development™ to simulate emergency scenarios in an industry that is especially hazardous.

In its research and development efforts, VNIIGAZ uses ANSYS® structural mechanics, fluid dynamics and explicit dynamics analysis tools to perform studies on erosion and combustion, stress–strain analysis, strength and fatigue analysis, and studies of internal and external loads in gas pipelines. One specific application involves modeling the physics of equipment damage, thereby facilitating the development of new damage prevention strategies and technologies.

Extensive risk-assessment simulations are planned to explore scenarios such as gas explosions and the spread of fire to help maintain and improve operational safety at Gazprom.

“ANSYS provides the breadth of simulation tools we need at VNIIGAZ to ensure we can accurately account for the entire range of physics. By placing ANSYS technology at the foundation of our research and development program, we can reduce the number of full-scale experiments and lead time required to develop innovative technologies designed for extraction, transportation and gas processing facilities accident prevention,” said Sergei Kovalyov, director of laboratory simulation of emergency processes at VNIIGAZ. In making its decision, VNIIGAZ considered how effective ANSYS technology has been at other oil and gas companies domestically and internationally.

“VNIIGAZ has not just managed to survive in our changing world, but its scientific input has allowed Gazprom to considerably enhance field projects and develop new technology. By selecting ANSYS software, VNIIGAZ recognizes the value of Simulation Driven Product Development in reducing costs and development timelines while delivering better products and processes — whether that applies to extended production, transportation improvement, higher reliability or safer operations,” said Ahmad Haidari, director, industry marketing at ANSYS, Inc.

ANSYS channel partner ZAO EMT R was instrumental in the implementation of ANSYS technology at VNIIGAZ and will provide high-level technical support and maintenance to the research division.

IKEA Launches 2010 Catalog, Debuting New Products and Lower Prices

IKEA, the world’s leading furnishings retailer, today announces the launch of the IKEA 2010 catalog in the United States. This year’s version of the annual catalog is filled with new offerings from IKEA as well as new, lower prices on many of the quality items consumers have loved in their homes for years.

The IKEA business idea is to offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them. And still have money leftover. While the IKEA 2010 catalog debuts brand new items to make everyday life better at home, it also showcases the brand’s deliberate thinking to offer lower prices on favorite products. For example, in 1985, the KLIPPAN sofa sold for $395. In 2010, KLIPPAN is only $249. By designing smarter, using materials more efficiently and reducing transportation costs, IKEA continues to ensure customers get more for less money. The new lower prices on many items will roll out throughout the year.

“We’re celebrating our 20th year in Pittsburgh and this is a great way to re-launch our brand and store in the Pittsburgh market” according to Chris Patterson, IKEA Pittsburgh Marketing. “For us, lower prices, style and quality are in our DNA. From our earliest days, we’ve worked hard to keep our prices low so that we can realize our vision of bringing well-designed, quality home furnishings to the many. We constantly challenge ourselves to find smart solutions to pass along savings to our customers. For those customers that haven’t been to our store in a few years, we want them to come back to see how our product range has grown from country to contemporary to traditional.”

Shoppers can find wallet-friendly inspiration and new products for every room in the 2010 catalog, including:

Living Room – To celebrate its 30th birthday, a limited edition of KLIPPAN sofas -dressed in its very first cover, BLADHULT – will be released. Also debuting are new improvements to the Scandinavian classic POANG chair, including a wider selection of frames, fabrics and leather to suit different styles, and a rocking chair to add to relaxation.

Kitchen – IKEA can furnish an entire kitchen with its brand new appliance line, including: 1) French-door refrigerators, 2) energy-efficient dishwashers, 3) 24 or 30-inch thermal or convection ovens, 4) gas or electric stove ranges, and 5) range hoods with built-in halogen lighting. Plus, all items come with a five-year limited warranty. The popular IKEA 365+ line is also growing with the addition of GNISTRA, a line of sturdy kitchen knives with a 15-year warranty.

Adult Bedroom – Look no further than the bedroom to spot two home décor trends for 2010. Grey, the achromatic hue of the year, is elegantly brought to life by designers T. Christensen and K. Legaard with EDLAN collection, and the retro chic wood tone, walnut, makes a comeback with designer Henrik Preutz’s ENGAN collection.

Child’s Room – Give your child a new place to rest their head with the VYSSA mattress for children, designed to be firm, dry and safe using only child-friendly materials. Also new is the LEN STJÄRNA quilt, made of a renewable cellulose-based material friendly to the environment.
