MadgeTech Intros ULT90 Low Freezer Validation System

Here’s some “chilling” news that has nothing to do with our lovely weather: MadgeTech, Inc. released the ULT90, an ultra-low temperature freezer validation system.  It can be used for validation, mapping, stabilization studies and temperature surveys.

The ULT90 provides a complete temperature mapping and validation solution for freezers of all sizes and configurations.  It includes Cryo-Temp data loggers, a USB docking station, MadgeTech’s Secure FDA 21 CFR Part 11 software and IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols.  The ULT90 can be fully customized to include user-specified quantities of each item in the system to accommodate specific applications.

The Cryo-Temp data logger can measure and record temperatures as low as -86°C and is splash resistant.  To provide data integrity, and meet the requirements of FDA 21 CFR Part 11, the secure software includes electronic signatures, access codes, a secure data file and an audit trail.

For large freezers the software can graph datasets from multiple loggers to show variances in different parts of the freezer.  This can reveal air stratification, hot spots and anomalies in chilling systems.

The ULT90 is available with 9 Cryo-Temps (ULT90-9), 15 Cryo-Temps (ULT90-15) or the system can be completely customized to meet the validation needs of a specific freezer (ULT90-Custom).

Quantum Simulations announces launch of www.quantumtutors.com

Quantum Simulations, Inc., a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring, assessment and professional development software announced today the launch of www.quantumtutors.com, an online tutor subscription service where college, high school and middle school students can receive one-on-one tutoring help in the areas of:

* Introductory accounting

* General chemistry

* Basic mathematics

Scientifically proven to increase test scores by at least a full letter grade, Quantum’s artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring software provides affordable, personal tutoring help over the Internet, anytime, anywhere. Offered at a fraction of the cost of private or online tutoring services which can average $35 to $70 per hour of instruction, Quantum’s tutoring software subscriptions are available for as little as $15 per semester (180 days unlimited access).

The Quantum Tutors are like having a personal tutor ready to help day or night, whether students need to work on an assignment and the instructor isn’t available to answer questions, or are preparing for a test and need more practice. The software is just like working with a real-life tutor or instructor.

Unlike homework systems that only tell students, “Wrong, try again,” or provide the same generic feedback for every student, Quantum explains “why” individual student answers are right or wrong. Whether it’s a simple math error, confusion about a formula or misunderstanding about an important concept, Quantum analyzes student work and knows what specific errors students are making and guides them back to the correct solution path, allowing students to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them at test time.

“With so much pressure on students to perform at higher levels in difficult subjects such as accounting, chemistry and mathematics where one concept builds on the next and it’s easy to fall behind, the Quantum Tutors are the perfect complement to teacher instruction and the textbook,” comments Mr. Dale Holder, Quantum’s Chief Academic Officer and award-winning master teacher for over 35 years. “With college enrollments on the rise and a shortage of qualified science and math teachers in K-12, it?s impossible to give every student the one-on-one attention they deserve, until now.”

Individual subscriptions: Students and parents can subscribe to the Quantum Tutors at www.quantumtutors.com.

Institution/school site licensing: Contact Al Renshaw, Director, Education Programs, at al.renshaw@quantumsimulations.com for more information and pricing.

Knopp Neurosciences Reports Presentation of Encouraging Clinical Trends in a Phase 2 Study of KNS-760704 in ALS

Knopp Neurosciences Inc. (“Knopp”) announced the presentation today of encouraging clinical results in a Phase 2 safety and tolerability study of KNS-760704 in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (“ALS”). The results were presented at the 20th International Symposium on ALS/MND in Berlin, Germany, by Merit Cudkowicz, M.D., Associate Professor of Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School.

The two-part Phase 2 study found that KNS-760704 was safe and well-tolerated in ALS patients for up to nine months. The study results also showed trends suggesting the potential for improved outcomes in function and survival. Knopp emphasized that the compound remains early in its development and that further testing in large, long-term, well-controlled Phase 3 studies is required to establish the necessary evidence that the drug is both safe and effective for patients with ALS.

“Knopp is very encouraged by the results presented today in Berlin and, at the same time, we’re acutely aware of the work that remains to be done,” said Michael Bozik, M.D., the President and CEO of Knopp. “We look forward to confirming and extending these results in Phase 3 studies, which we hope to initiate in 2010.” Knopp has formally engaged regulators in the U.S. and European Union to obtain scientific input on its planned Phase 3 program, including a scheduled meeting with the U.S. FDA in January 2010.

Added Dr. Cudkowicz: “The safety results and the trends in improved functional and survival outcomes observed in this study provide preliminary evidence supporting the ongoing evaluation of KNS-760704 in Phase 3 clinical trials.”

The primary objective of the Phase 2 study was to assess the safety and tolerability of KNS-760704 in ALS subjects for up to nine months. Secondary objectives included measuring the clinical effects of KNS-760704 on functional decline and mortality. The two-part design of the study provided the opportunity to assess the effects of KNS-760704 in the same sample of ALS subjects in two randomized, double-blind treatment periods separated by a one-month placebo washout.

In Part 1 of the study, 102 subjects received daily doses of 50 mg, 150 mg, or 300 mg of KNS-760704 or placebo for 12 weeks. KNS-760704 showed a dose-dependent trend in slowing the rate of disease progression as measured by the difference in slopes of ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R) across treatment groups, with the greatest benefit observed in the 300 mg dose group.

In Part 2 of the study, 92 subjects were re-randomized to receive daily doses of 50 mg or 300 mg of KNS-760704 for 24 weeks. In addition to results again suggesting a dose-dependent trend in slowing the rate of disease progression as measured by the ALSFRS-R, there was also a trend toward a survival benefit in the 300 mg group compared with the 50 mg group. In an exploratory test combining mortality and functional outcomes, subjects in the 300 mg group had a significantly improved outcome compared with the 50 mg group.

Future Fusion Makes a Splash at 2009 RSPA Convention

Future Fusion, the latest version of Future POS Software, was unveiled at the 2009 Future POS Dealer Conference and RSPA Convention that took place in July at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. RSPA, or the Retail Solutions Providers Association, is a group dedicated to the Retail Technology Industry. The RSPA is the premier organization for retailers, distributors, manufactures, developers, and service providers in the Hospitality Industry. Cutting Edge Solutions, the company that develops Future POS Software, choose to unveil Future Fusion due to the wide exposure products receive during the RSPA Convention.

When asked about the difference between Future Fusion and other versions of Future POS Software, John Giles, President of Cutting Edge Solutions stated that: “With the release of Future Fusion, our product has leapfrogged the competition, and now sits at the front of the pack. Prior to Fusion, you would have to decide if you wanted a full featured product running on a 1980’s database, or a product with very limited functionality that utilized the power and reliability that comes with Microsoft SQL. Now customers can have the best of both worlds. This also serves as our foundation for the future, and will allow us to deliver the types of cutting edge features that the market is hungry for, such as ordering via ‘smart phones’, and also speeds up the delivery of interfaces to other best-of-breed products that compliment Future POS.”

`Initial reaction by Future POS Dealers and retail industry insiders is very positive. Third party integrations can now be done with a minimum of involvement by Cutting Edge Solutions, which will open the flood gates for a variety of product integrations that do not have to necessarily come from Future POS developers anymore. It will also open the door to restaurant chains that have their own I.T. departments because they can write whatever custom reports they require.

Future Fusion is very different from previous versions of Future POS. Future POS has moved from a 1980’s legacy database to a cutting edge database backed by Microsoft. According to John Giles, “We have eliminated “fighting city hall”, because whatever new version of Windows comes out, we know that it has been thoroughly tested with Microsoft SQL. Previously we had to install our software on the new OS, kick the tires, and hope that it didn’t break anything. If it did break something, we were at the mercy of our vendor, and had to wait for them to get it fixed. That’s all changed now!”

Giles is very excited about the possibilities of Future Fusion based on the feedback received by Future POS Dealers and RSPA Members so far. Future Fusion is expected to open up a lot of possibilities to Future POS Users and Future POS Dealers.

Anti-Phishing Phil Training Game Now Available as eLearning Courseware through Plateau’s iContent

In its drive to make its solutions available to a broader range of companies, Wombat Security Technologies has joined Plateau’s iContent partner ecosystem to make its flagship Anti-Phishing Phil training game available as eLearning content. While Phil is easy to deploy, iContent makes it available via a content-as-a-service solution so that organizations, specifically small and mid-sized companies, no longer have to deploy the educational game on company servers.

“Making this training game available to users through iContent significantly expands visibility for and access to Anti-Phishing Phil,” said Dr. Norman Sadeh, Founder and CEO of Wombat Security Technologies. “By making the interactive and instructive Anti-Phishing Phil courseware available for immediate access in a fully hosted and managed environment, we are providing a truly unique learner experience that will help organizations, especially small and mid-sized companies, protect themselves against phishing scams.”

Anti-Phishing Phil is a creative, interactive online game designed to teach users how to identify phishing URLs and avoid phishing scams that may compromise their computers, data and privacy. During the game, users assume the identity of a fish named Phil who swims through the ocean deciding whether to eat or reject worms associated with URLs. Phil’s goal is to eat the worms that are legitimate URLs and rejects those that are not. After each round, the game provides users with feedback and tips on the choices Phil made. Because this training format is more engaging than traditional training content, users are more likely to retain what they have learned.

In fact, according to Scientific American Magazine which featured the game in an article last year titled How to Foil “Phishing” Scams, “the ability of subjects who had played the game to distinguish legitimate from fraudulent URLs improved nearly twice as much as that of those trained with standard materials.”

With the increase in cyber attacks and significant revenue loss resulting from phishing scams, demand for the Anti-Phishing Phil training game is growing. Offering this training through iContent expands the game’s reach and allows organizations across the globe to deliver the training quickly and easily to employees while minimizing IT investment and involvement.

“Through this agreement, Wombat Security Technologies and iContent are delivering a unique, cost-effective training solution that addresses a very real security pain,” said Lee Wright, Sr. Director of Services, iContent, at Plateau Systems. “Being able to manage and deliver Anti-Phishing Phil through a SaaS (or CaaS) solution is especially beneficial for those organizations who have a need for this type of training but do not necessarily have the human or technical bandwidth or resources to support it.”

iContent, the industry’s first and only Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution to provide a single point of procurement, centralized management, hosting for all third-party and in-house content and an all-inclusive service-level guarantee, allows organizations to find, purchase and deliver relevant eLearning to their end-users. Launching eLearning content – including content authored for AICC or SCORM – through iContent is a seamless and straightforward. Users simply log-in and launch the content through Plateau’s industry-leading SaaS-based learning management system (LMS). Today, more than 1.4 million users spanning 154 countries are using iContent to deliver and access e-learning content.
