The PTC is pleased to be a sponsor of Flashpitt 2008, a one-day conference for multimedia designers, developers and artists. It’s Pittsburgh’s first major Flash-centric conference. National and international industry leaders will be present to inspire, educate and challenge the region’s Flash community. The speaker line up will share inside tips, new technologies and behind the scenes looks to Flashpitt’s attendees.

Two tracks of sessions, running from 9 a.m. until about 6 p.m., will provide creative and technical support for all levels of Flash folk. An after party full of fun and networking opportunities will cap the end of the conference.

The nationally prestigious AIGA design organization will present the AIGA Fellow Award to local ThoughtForm Inc. principals Reed Agnew, Don Moyer, and Grant Smith on September 18 during its fifth annual Design Legends Gala in New York City. As the first Western Pennsylvania recipients of the AIGA Fellow Award, the honorees will join 17 other Fellows at Chelsea Piers, along with 2008 recipients of the AIGA Medal; The AIGA Corporate Leadership Award; The Winterhouse Award for Design Writing & Criticism; and The 2008/2009 Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships.

“As the first AIGA Pittsburgh members to receive the Fellow award, Reed, Don and Grant have secured a special place in our profession’s history,” Greg Gibilisco, president of AIGA Pittsburgh, said. AIGA Pittsburgh announced the award at a reception in May.

The new Fellows began their careers together in the 1970s when they joined a lineup of sophisticated visual thinkers at the new Westinghouse Corporate Design Center, which was being formed by design consultants Eliot Noyes and Paul Rand. Reed, Don, and Grant went on to cofound the design firm Agnew Moyer Smith in 1980.

Renamed ThoughtForm on its 25th anniversary, the firm is nationally known for making complex information clear and engaging through thoughtfully designed visual communications. With a team of 40, it develops brand identities, interactive media, environments, packaging, and print communications for clients such as GlaxoSmithKline, UnitedHealthcare, Caterpillar, and Eaton.

The  AIGA Fellow Award recognizes designers and other major figures in the profession who have made significant contributions to the field and have raised the standards of excellence in the community. Designated by the Pittsburgh Chapter and recognized nationally, the Fellow Award celebrates the impact of this profession and helps elevate awareness of the value of design.

“The Fellow Award is a great honor and our partners have contributed to advancing the quality of design in this community and the world at large throughout their careers. They have made an important difference to how people experience information,” says Norm Goldberg, a stakeholder in the firm. “They’ve quietly mentored a generation of designers and have elevated the quality of communication through their world-class practice. All of us are excited to see them recognized in this way.”
